Australian Etchings & Engravings
1880s-1930s
From the Gallery's collection
5 May - 22 July 2007
Project gallery, Ground Level

In the first decades of the twentieth century, Australia saw a remarkable boom in the production and collection of etchings and engravings. Strongly influenced by great European artists, local artists, such as Norman and Lionel Lindsay, Sydney Long and Sydney Ure Smith, sought to establish fine etchings and engravings in Australia. Other artists, born and trained in England, also brought with them a more modern sensibility, such as Weaver Hawkins and Frank Medworth, influencing local artists.
