The story of contemporary Australian and international art told through the gallery’s collection. Nine chapters introduce ideas, themes and art movements from the last 40 years, followed by illustrated entries on individual artists and their works. The tenth chapter explores the history of collecting and exhibiting contemporary art at the Art Gallery of New South Wales. At the end of the book are reading lists to guide readers who wish to discover more about chapter themes or particular artists.
