Nolan's Rite of Spring

Forty-five years after the London premiere of the Royal Ballet’s production of Stravinsky’s Rite of Spring at Covent Garden, this Focus Room display celebrates the anniversary with a selection of photographs taken during rehearsals by Axel Poignant. Sidney Nolan’s designs for the décor and costumes, together with a group of images taken in Arnhem Land in the 1950s by Poignant which inspired them, also feature. A spectacular re-creation of Nolan’s Moonboy backcloth will also mark the occasion.

This Focus Room display will tour to the State Library of Queensland, Brisbane:
