First exhibited at the Gallery in 1975, this extraordinary installation was the first of a major trilogy of works produced by the Sydney-based sculptor in the 1970s which explored states of flux and emergence and the way knowledge is perceived. The work, which extends ideas surrounding evolution and archaeology, derives its curious title from the Latin name for a lizard that was a freak of evolutionary process.
