Brett in the Studio

The first book on the studios of Brett Whiteley will be launched at the Brett Whiteley Studio on Thursday 13 December, 6pm. The book is a pictorial history of the artist’s studios throughout his life. It features photographs never published before, a recent interview with Wendy Whiteley and an essay by the Head of Australian Art, Barry Pearce entitled the artist and the creative space.

The studios range from his childhood home conversion of the greenhouse in Longueville, Sydney; the Chelsea Hotel, New York; the Lavender Bay home; and his last residence and workplace in Surry Hills where he lived from 1987-1992, which is now the Brett Whiteley Studio Museum.

The book includes many family photographs of the artist at work, excerpts from his 1960s diary including his thoughts and ideas on art and Europe and many fascinating quotes from those who know him.
