Lakshmi is the goddess of prosperity, wealth and abundance. She bestows material as well as spiritual blessings upon her devotees.Understanding the Lakshmi symbols |
She is a popular household goddess, for Hindus believe that when Lakshmi is lovingly called upon with prayers, song, paintings, and offerings, she fills the home with her protective spirit and wards off misfortune. Images and pictures of Lakshmi frequently adorn the walls of businesses, including shops, restaurants, offices and banks, invoking the goddess’s ability to shower success and prosperity. According to a popular fifth-century Indian myth, Lakshmi emerges as one of many submerged treasures, when the gods churn the cosmic ocean to bring forth precious materials for the benefit of mankind. Vishnu, the great protector of the universe, catches a glimpse of the resplendent Lakshmi as she surfaces, and at once claims her as his partner. Lakshmi lovingly watches over her followers and readily grants them material prosperity, physical wellbeing and spiritual success. |
