The Citigroup Private Bank Australian Photographic Portrait Prize

Roderick McNicol, Robert Hunter 1984 & 2004

Art Gallery of New South Wales

30 April to 3 July 2005

Winner announced Friday 29 April at 12noon (media only)

Now in its third year, The Citigroup Private Bank Australian Photographic Portrait Prize attracts entries from around Australia. As with the Archibald Prize, the subjects are wide-ranging, often revealing an intimate insight into people in their everyday life, or the side of a celebrity not seen before.

The annual exhibition of finalists selected for Australian Photographic Portrait Prize is on view at the Art Gallery of New South Wales in conjunction with the 2005 Archibald Prize, from 30 April to 3 July. The winner receives $15,000, and their work is automatically acquired for the Art Gallery's permanent collection. The winner will be announced on Friday 29 April at 12noon (media only).

The Prize is open to photographers who are residents of Australia. All still photo-based art is considered, including all types of analogue and digital photography. Entries must have been produced in the 12 months prior to the entry closing date (4 March).

The judges for the 2005 Prize are Edmund Capon, Director of the Art Gallery of New South Wales, Imants Tillers, artist and trustee of the Art Gallery of New South Wales and Dr Isobel Crombie, Senior Curator of Photography, National Gallery of Victoria.

"Through the support of the major sponsor, The Citigroup Private Bank, the Prize encourages excellence in photography, and is a highlight in the Gallery's exhibition calendar," said Edmund Capon, Director of the Art Gallery of New South Wales.

"The Citigroup Private Bank is delighted to partner with the Art Gallery of New South Wales to provide both professional and aspiring Australian photographic artists the opportunity to exhibit their outstanding works and to promote photography as a fine art form." said Jeremy Nestel, Head of The Citigroup Private Bank, Australia and New Zealand.
