PROGRAM HIGHLIGHTS
CELEBRITY TALKS 6.30pm In conjunction with the exhibition Pissarro: The first Impressionist. Personalities discuss Pissarro, one of the leading and most influential French Impressionists who was also an innovative, rebellious and fervent anarchist in 19th century France.
30 Nov - Bob Carr, former Premier of NSW: Camille Pissarro One of Australia's most popular and respected political leaders introduces Pissarro and reveals how he was the "thumping heart" of Impressionism.
7 Dec - Stephanie Alexander, food writer & food activist: Life and food in France Known as one of Australia's most consummate Francophiles, Stephanie shares her passion for French life and food and memories of writing her book, Cooking and Travelling in South-West France, published in 2003.
14 Dec - Richard Glover, Broadcaster & author: Some things you might not know about Pissarro! Well known broadcaster Richard Glover discusses the claim of Pissarro being Impressionism's "forgotten genius". Join him as he intrigues us with interesting stories of the great French artist, Camille Pissarro.
PIANO CONCERTS 6.30pm 21 & 28 Dec. Two of the nation's top young pianists, both finalists in the 2005 Yamaha Australian Youth Piano competition, perform solo concerts in the majestic 19th century master galleries.
FILM PROGRAM 7.15pm Inspired by the stories and the political sentiments of Emile Zola and Guy de Maupassant, this series include classic feature films that grew out of poetic realist cinema of the 1930s.
Screened in 35mm format and imported from France, don't miss this rare program of French cinema with films by Jean Renoir, Max Ophuls, Marcel Carn�, Jacques Becker, Agn�s Varda, Bertrand Tavernier, Nicolas Philibert and more. Full details at www.pissarro.com.au/films
LIVE MUSIC IN THE ARTBAR 7.30pm The caf� transforms into the Parisian lounge-bar from 5pm. Enjoy a drink, light meal and French ambience with Eddie Bronson on accordion and Antoli Torjinski on cello from 7.30pm.
