Albert Tucker
This exhibition includes eight paintings by Albert Tucker and eighty-three works on paper which are promised gifts on loan from Barbara Tucker, the artist's widow. This is the first time a selection of them is on show.

An incomplete world
An incomplete world features paintings and photographs by leading international artists, including Andy Warhol, Roy Lichtenstein, Sarah Morris, Damien Hirst, Andreas Gursky, Ed Ruscha, Lucian Freud, Gerhard Richter and Cindy Sherman. August Sander
The photographs of August Sander draws 158 unique photographs from The J. Paul Getty Museum, which has the most substantial collection of Sander photographs outside of Germany (approximately 1,200). This is the first time they have been seen in Australia.

AWS 2007 Packing room prize winner
Artist Danelle Bergstrom from Sydney has been awarded the Packing Room Prize in conjunction with the 2007 Archibald Prize for her portrait of Australian actor, Jack Thompson.

Belgiorno-Nettis family donate $4 million
28 August 2007 the Art Gallery of New South Wales announced that one of the leading arts families in Australia: the Belgiorno-Nettis family have agreed to donate $4 million to the gallery over four years in support of its contemporary art galleries.

Bertram Mackennal
The Bertram Mackennal exhibition, the Fifth Balnaves Foundation Sculpture Project, will feature fifty-five sculptures, and an accompanying monograph on the artist � the first of its kind � which also includes a fully illustrated catalogue raisonn� of Mackennal's sculptures on CD-ROM

Brett Whiteley Studio free access
The Art Gallery of New South Wales manages the Brett Whiteley Studio and has entered into a partnership with JPMorgan. This relationship enables free access to the studio and the first comprehensive handbook of the studio containing many unpublished images of Whiteley at work.

Claire Healy & Sean Cordeiro
Sydney artists Claire Healy and Sean Cordeiro make site-specific and daring installations which often explore the idea of the home and permanency. This project includes a Ger - a Mongolian tent - filled with archive boxes and a trailer stacked with mirrored Perspex and wooden sculptures.

Controversial French performance artist Orlan will be giving a free public lecture titled 'This Is My Body, This Is My Software: between western culture and non-western culture' in Sydney on 30 July 2007.

David Hockney acquisition
Art Gallery of New South Wales acquires David Hockney�s 'A closer winter tunnel', 2006 for $3.6 million. The painting, consisting of six canvas panels is now on public display at the Gallery.

Dobell Drawing Prize 2007
The Dobell Prize is the most respected award for drawing in Australia. Initiated by the trustees of the Sir William Dobell Art Foundation, the prize was first awarded in 1993. The winner receives $20,000. The winner of this year's prize will be announced on Thursday 23 August at 11am.

Gail Hastings
Gail Hastings' 'sculptural situations' are neither installation nor sculpture but spaces where the viewer is encouraged to translate the material aspects of what can be seen with other imperceptible dimensions.

Gallery focuses on disability programs
The Gallery can now commit to delivering several access programs for the next three years, including special art making workshops for intellectually disabled and intellectually gifted children, Touch Tours and Auslan- interpreted events.

Gary Carsley
Sydney artist Gary Carsley's new project is an immersive installation comprised of large photographic monoprints made from scanned timber adhesive foils that together create an image of a park.

Gifted: Contemporary Aboriginal Art
Mollie Gowing�s support has enabled the Art Gallery NSW to buy 362 works by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander artists. Gifted displays more than 100 of these works by artists including Ginger Riley Munduwalawala, Michael Jagamara Nelson, Emily Kam Ngwarray and Judy Watson.

Howard Arkley
For almost thirty years Howard Arkley (1951-1999) produced some of the most idiosyncratic and iconoclastic art in Australia. This exhibition represents the development of his oeuvre from the early 1970s to his final major works.

Paradise then
Fleischmann intended to publish a book, Bali through a sculptor�s eyes, but it never eventuated after his death in 1990. This exhibition commemorates the launch of the book and includes sculpture, a recently acquired sketchbook and a selection of his photographs.

Police investigate theft
Police are investigating the theft of a valuable 17th century work of art from the Art Gallery of New South Wales last weekend. The art work by Frans van Mieris I, titled 'A cavalier (self portrait)', was stolen from the Gallery between 10am and 12.30pm on Sunday 10 June 2007.

Scott Redford
Dragging art history into popular culture, Redford's new series of 'surf' paintings represent the visual and social culture of the Gold Coast and focus on the dissolve between high and so-called low culture.

September Art After Hours

Sidney Nolan
This is the first major retrospective of Sidney Nolan�s paintings since his death in 1992. It presents an opportunity to unravel something of the artist�s enigma and understand his essential achievement across an entire career.

Steven Lowy - new President
Edmund Capon, Director of the Art Gallery of New South Wales today announced that Steven Lowy is the new President of the Board of Trustees of the Art Gallery of New South Wales. Steven was appointed to the AGNSW Board in 2006.

Struck
Anna Munster and Michele Barker present the Australian premiere of their multi-channel video and sound installation, Struck � a work which critically addresses the complexities of being diagnosed with a neurological disease.

Tezuka - the Marvel of Manga
