This month enjoy a diverse program of events inspired by the current exhibitions Translucent World: Chinese jade from the Forbidden City and One Sun One Moon. The Westerns: Outlaws and Outsiders film program commences in the lead up to the major Sidney Nolan exhibition and the ArtBar features performances on the bamboo flute and didjeridu.

Tracing the rich cultural tapestry of China, this cinematic history reflects on mythological, artistic, social, historical and political events while dynastic monarchies rise and fall, rival warriors battle for supremacy, and war and revolution give way to chaos.

Films commence 24 Oct (Sidney Nolan exhibition opens 2 November)
Like Nolan’s paintings, Westerns often depict the discordance of the land, people, history and mythology. This upcoming series of outstanding Westerns demonstrates a gothic, even surreal cinematic aesthetic – a sense of space, distance, mystery and transcendence.
