Raise the Red Lantern, Dir: Zhang Yimou, 1991 Westerns: Outlaws and Outsiders Films commence 24 Oct (Sidney Nolan exhibition opens 2 November) Like Nolan’s paintings, Westerns often depict the discordance of the land, people, history and mythology. This upcoming series of outstanding Westerns demonstrates a gothic, even surreal cinematic aesthetic – a sense of space, distance, mystery and transcendence. 24 Oct.
