The Artists’ Country
The homelands of the Kuninjku lie on the spectacular Arnhem
Land plateau, to the west of the Aboriginal community of Maningrida
in the far north of Australia. Studded by freshwater rivers,
waterlily-covered billabongs, dense woodlands and rocky outcrops,
the region is infused with the supreme presence of Ngalyod
(the rainbow serpent), the creator and protector of all Djang
(sacred places).
