Chinese calligraphy from the James Hayes Collection | | | 23 September - 27 November 2005 Asian gallery, Ground Level

The focus of this exhibition is the cultural life of the imperial Chinese Mandarins, revealing that calligraphy was part of official life, playing an important part in an official's career, especially among his peers. It was also a leisure activity with a strong bilateral social bias - official and social - intertwined and almost inseparable.
