Free Sunday Lunchtime Concerts
During 2001, visitors to the Art Gallery of New South Wales have been treated to the exquisite blend of art and music in a hugely successful series of free Sunday lunchtime concerts.
Presented by students of the Australian Institute of Music, together with the Art Gallery of New South Wales, the final series for 2001 is designed to complement the Gallerys major exhibition, Buddha, in itself a glowing, uplifting visual feast. The Eastern influences on Western music will be demonstrated in an exciting array of solo and chamber concerts. The program includes diverse works by composers such as Shostakovich, Tchaikovsky, Paganini, Mendelssohn, Debussy and Chopin, as well as an improvised jazz performance.
Music lovers will delight at the ambience created by the fusion of superb acoustics and grand architecture of the Old Courts where some of the Gallerys most popular icons of Australian art are exhibited.
The performers are all highly talented young students nurtured by the dedicated staff at the Australian Institute of Music who provide a standard of excellence in teaching. The Australian Institute of Music (AIM) is a private, non-profit music school with a range of courses to develop the talents of students of all ages.
