Masterpieces of Victorian Art from The John and Julie Schaeffer Collection
The Art Gallery of New South Wales is, through the generosity of John and Julie Schaeffer, showing what is almost certainly the finest representation of British Victorian painting to be seen anywhere in the world.
The combination of a selection of the Gallerys most famous works Ford Madox Browns Chaucer at the court of Edward III, Poynters epic The visit of the Queen of Sheeba to King Solomon and Leightons ravishing Cymon and Iphigenia are displayed with a selection of outstanding paintings and sculptures from the extraordinary Schaeffer collection. The exhibition provides the unique opportunity of seeing many of the greatest and most memorable moments of Victorian painting.
The generous benefaction of the Schaeffers to the Gallery includes their gift last year of Sir Lawrence Alma Tademas A Juggler, as well as a substantial endowment which will enable the Gallery to further develop its renowned collection of Victorian paintings.
