This major retrospective exhibition addresses the major phases of Preston’s art, technical experimentation and equally colourful life from the early 1900s to the late 1950s. This section gives an overview of these important decades.

‘In her heyday she was a powerhouse of rebellion’ (Leon Gellert). Vociferous, ambitious and a spectacularly skilful technician, she remained throughout her long career ‘a natural enemy of the dull’ (Sydney Ure Smith).
