Fred Williams was one of the finest artists of the Australian landscape in the twentieth century. He was also a major printmaker and draughtsman, but this aspect of his oeuvre is less widely known.

Williams' technical mastery of printmaking was fully complemented by the heights to which his imagery reached, and his drawings powerfully express his response to his subjects and translation of them into art.

From Music Hall to Landscape: Fred Williams drawings and prints has been shaped by the collection of Williams' drawings and prints in the Gallery, supplemented by works from the artist's estate. It is a diverse selection of works that span the years 1953 to 1978, revealing principal themes in his oeuvre, from the early London Music Hall subjects, to unmistakeable depictions of the Australian landscape.

A fully illustrated catalogue accompanies the exhibition.
