Russell Drysdale Sunday evening 1941 Lady Drysdale | Drysdales powerful work, Sunday evening, is of seminal importance in the development of the artists unique vision of the people and landscape of the Australian inland. As one of his earliest paintings on an outback theme, it broke radically with the established Heidelberg school vision of Australia as a sun-drenched pastoral arcadia, while revealing the emergence of Drysdales early personal style and signalling the future importance of the figure to his painting.
The next exhibition in this series will be Margaret Prestons I lived at Berowra 1941 and Grey day in the ranges 1942.
