Wamud Namok

Wamud Namok AO, a respected Kundedjnjenghmi elder, personifies the multiplicity of roles that artists perform today. His unrivalled knowledge of rock art in the Arnhem Land plateau region is sought after by academic and Aboriginal agencies. The artist’s paintings, using the same natural pigments he employs to paint on rock, are exhibited in galleries of contemporary art. His art exemplifies the ‘x-ray’ style that is now considered synonymous with western Arnhem Land painting and features exquisitely rendered figures with expressive gestures.
