2000-2010
Biennale of Sydney 2004
On Reason and Emotion
4 June - 15 August 2004
Lower Level 1

The Biennale of Sydney presents the best of contemporary international and Australian art. Featuring the work of 51 artists from 32 countries, it explores the borders of perception and invites viewers to embark on a journey of poetic encounters. Portuguese curator Isabel Carlos has chosen a program of exhibitions, lectures and events which questions the connection between ideas and experience, and the role emotions play in shaping our thoughts, perceptions and sense of self. Rather than the traditional concept 'I think therefore I am', the Biennale challenges us to discover the new reality of 'I feel therefore I am'.

The Art Gallery of New South Wales is a major venue partner. Other participating venues include the Museum of Contemporary Art, Royal Botanic Gardens, Sydney Opera House, Museum of Sydney and Artspace.
